Custom Web Apps, SaaS & APIs

When off-the-shelf tools and no-code automation can't do the job, we build it. Custom web applications, internal tools, SaaS products, and the APIs that connect your systems — designed, built, and supported on a modern, maintainable stack you own outright.

At a glance

SmartFlow builds custom software for small and midsize businesses: web applications and internal tools, SaaS products, and custom APIs and integrations. We work in a modern, widely-supported stack — TypeScript across the board, with React/Next.js, Node.js, and PostgreSQL— and we stay through launch and beyond. You own the code outright. It sits alongside our automation and AI work: we'll build a no-code automation when that's the right tool, and custom software when it isn't.

What we design, build & support

A complete engagement — from scoping the right solution to keeping it healthy in production.

Discovery & architecture
We start with the problem, not the framework. We map the workflow, model the data, weigh build-vs-buy honestly, and design an architecture that fits your scale and budget — so you're building the right thing before a line of code is written.
Build
We build custom web applications, internal tools, dashboards, and SaaS products in a modern, well-supported stack. Clean, documented, tested code you own outright — shipped in small increments so you see working software early and often.
APIs & integrations
When a no-code connector doesn't exist or can't go deep enough, we write the API. Custom backends, webhooks, and code-level integrations that move data between your systems reliably — the layer that makes everything else talk.
Launch & support
Software isn't done at launch. We deploy to modern cloud infrastructure, monitor for errors, fix and iterate, and keep dependencies current — so what we ship keeps running and keeps improving as your needs change.

What we build

  • Customer portals and client-facing web applications
  • Internal tools, admin dashboards, and line-of-business apps
  • SaaS products — from a first MVP to a full production platform
  • Custom APIs and backend services
  • Code-level integrations where off-the-shelf connectors fall short
  • The data models and databases that sit behind the app

Our stack

A modern, pragmatic, widely-adopted stack — capable enough for a real product, and common enough that it's easy to hire for later.

Frontend
React and Next.js with TypeScript — fast, accessible, SEO-friendly web apps.
Backend
Node.js and TypeScript APIs and server logic, plus serverless functions where they fit.
Data
PostgreSQL (via Supabase) with authentication, row-level security, and real-time built in.
Infrastructure
Deployed and scaled on modern cloud platforms like Vercel and Supabase, with CI/CD and monitoring.

Is custom software the right fit?

Custom software is powerful, but it isn't always the right answer. When an off-the-shelf tool or a no-code automation will do, we'll tell you so.

Custom software is a strong fit if...
  • Off-the-shelf tools don't fit how your business actually works
  • Your team is duct-taping spreadsheets and disconnected apps together
  • You have a product or platform you want to build and sell
  • You need an integration no existing connector supports
  • The workflow is core to your business — it's worth owning outright
Off-the-shelf or no-code may be better if...
  • A proven SaaS product already does 90% of what you need
  • The need is a predictable, rule-based workflow — Zapier, Make, or n8n is cheaper
  • Requirements aren't settled yet and are still changing weekly
  • The timeline or budget can't support a build, and a workaround is fine for now

Software development FAQ

What kinds of software do you build?

Custom web applications and internal tools, SaaS products, and custom APIs and backend services. That covers customer portals, admin dashboards, line-of-business apps, product MVPs, and the integrations and data models behind them. We focus on web and backend software rather than native mobile apps.

What is your technology stack?

We build primarily in TypeScript across the stack: React and Next.js on the frontend, Node.js on the backend, and PostgreSQL (via Supabase) for data, deployed on modern cloud platforms like Vercel and Supabase. It's a pragmatic, widely-supported stack — not a niche one that's hard to hire for later. This very platform is built on it.

How do you decide between custom software and no-code automation?

We start with the cheapest thing that will work. If a no-code automation on Zapier, Make, or n8n solves it, we'll build that — it's faster and cheaper to run. We recommend custom software when the workflow is core intellectual property, when you're building a product to sell, or when off-the-shelf tools and no-code simply can't reach far enough. We'll tell you honestly which path fits.

Will we own the code?

Yes. You own the source code and the intellectual property outright, in your own repository. No lock-in to a proprietary platform you can't leave, and no dependency on us to make future changes — though we're glad to stay on for support and new features.

Do you work with our existing systems?

Yes. Most custom software has to fit into a stack you already run — your CRM, accounting, help desk, and databases. We integrate with those through their APIs so the new software adds capability without forcing you to rip out what works.

What does a project cost, and how long does it take?

Every project is scoped and priced after a short discovery call. A focused internal tool or MVP can land in a few weeks; a larger platform runs longer. We work in small, visible increments so you're never waiting months to see progress. Start with a free consultation for a real estimate on your specific project.
